Best Time to Apply for a Job in Property
Property firms will traditionally look to recruit around the autumn time, or towards the end of summer. Summer is one of the quietest times in property, so not a lot of the firms will be actively seeking new staff. As it progresses into winter though, you should be equipped with your CV.
September is the time of year when a lot of property courses will begin, and old ones will end, so employers will be looking out for new recruits.
A lot of the firms will start looking towards the end of the summer when degree courses finish, and they may even contact universities with any potential job opportunities a few moths before the course is due to end.
The Best Time of Day
If you do decide to go cold calling, which means visiting firms randomly to see if they have any jobs on offer, then you should think carefully about timing, remember not to call in their busiest hour. If you go in to an office when they have a million and one other things to do, they are unlikely to pay much attention to you. It is best to call first thing in the morning or at the end of the day.Once you have left your CV you should then leave it a week and telephone the person you left it with to check if there has been any progress. This doesn’t mean that you should harass them, but simply give them a follow-up call to make sure that they didn’t forget about your CV.
When You Are Finishing Your Course
If you are coming to the end of your degree or training course, then timing is everything, you should be starting to think about applying for jobs. A lot of firms will start to recruit new graduates just as courses are coming to an end, so do not feel like you need to wait until your graduation. A lot of the best graduate jobs will go in the first few months of universities graduating, so you should start applying early if you want to start your career in property straight away.If your course finishes in the summer, then closing dates for jobs when you graduate will normally be around November or December, before you graduate. This is not set in stone though and often firms will recruit all year round, so don’t worry if you missed the deadline, as you may still be able to get a job.
Most firms will want to know what your predicted grades are going to be and will take these into consideration when looking at your application. It works much in the way as it does when you are applying for university courses. If you get the grades you are predicted, then you have more of a chance of getting on tee course you want or job.
