Selling Yourself In The Property World

The Importance Of Selling Yourself

When trying to find jobs in the property market you will not only findyourself selling properties, but you could also find yourself trying to sellyourself.Competition is tough when it comes to getting your foot in the door of aproperty firm, so it is important that you come across well to a firm andmake them want to employ you.

Tips On Selling Yourself

The best thing you can do at an interview is turn your negatives into positives. It may be that you do not have enough experience for the job you want, but turn this around and express your willingness to learn and train in new skills. Likewise, if you do not have the skills that they are looking for, relate the skills you do have into what the job is looking for.It is important to always stay enthusiastic and happy, if you have the kind of personality that they want to get to know, then it will make them want to employ you.

You must also try and relate back every question they ask you to some experience that you have had, and demonstrate how you have the skills for the job. For example, if they ask about whether you are good at managing your time, throw in a few examples of when you have worked in a property environment and how you coped with managing your time. It doesn’t have to even be a proper job, it could have been a work placement that you were on. Likewise, if you do not have a work placement to speak about, then talk about a time when you had to meet a strict deadline on your course, or in training.

You should make sure that you leave the interview having explained why you match the criteria for your chosen career, and make the firm feel like they want to employ you.

When You Enter The Working World

Trying to sell yourself will not end once you have finished the interview process. A lot of what working in property is about; is making the propertieslook attractive and the firm that you are working for. You will be expectedto contact builders and make good relationships with contacts, part of this could mean selling yourself to clients as well. Sales people will often have to sell things they do not always believe in when working in property, so it is important you are able to be friendly with contacts and put on a smile. You will need to sell your company to clients which will involve knowing everything you can about the company and pitching it to win over the competition. You will normally be at the forefront of any deals that may be happening, so it will be your job to make sure you can present well and put your ideas forward.

There are all sorts of different jobs in the property market and depending on which career you choose you may have to sell yourself in different ways. There are professions you can choose which will involve a lot less selling and more on the development side, but if you go into anything to do with property management and sales, you will need to have the personality to match your chosen career.
